The first blog experiment

| 7 Comments | No TrackBacks

I plan some musical blog experiments. I have a belief that if you familiarize yourself with music enough, you will like it. In other words, no matter how naff the album, you will be singing along at some stage. I experienced this when I kept a cassette in my car and it was all I listened to on the way to work.

My experiment . . .

. . . nominate the worst album you can think of (or music style that I would not like). I'll track it down and listen to it lots and lots and then see if I like it. I'll add comments to this entry as I progress through it.

Obviously, it would help if I used an album that I had already bought. But that would suggest that I have an album that I am not already familiar with and that is rubbish. Oh, wait a minute, I do own White Ladder by David Gray. But stop, I could babble on for ages.

Any nominations?

I’m struggling to think of anything that is universally regarded as “rubbish”…

The official worst album ever is Thank You by Duran Duran (according to Q Magazine) It’s an album of covers. So I think doesn’t count. Plus Duran Duran have done some good stuff in the past. I want random person/group.

Article here: The Independent

It is not in the unpublished list or anywhere …

I think of lots of bands I dislike (e.g. Justin Timberlake etc), but they might not be bad albums, just that I personally don’t like the artist.

I hear the Paris Hilton album is widely regarded as rubbish tho.

I think Paris Hilton may win.

Or the William Shatner album. That has to be bad. I’m not even sure I could convince myself to buy it. I read somewhere that there is a Leonard Nimoy album too…

Don’t diss the Shat!

I think your theory may be right Andy and I’ll tell you why: I used to be a mobile DJ (‘DJ Moonbeam’) who used to go out to weddings, pubs, other local functions, with my rig and play, y’know, top 20s shite that I previously used to hate. What I discovered over the years is that I could find something listenable in pretty much any song, over time.

As for worst album ever, I would nominate ‘rocket’, an album by Primitive Radio Gods…I bought it on the strength of the single, which was really good, but the rest of the album…honestly…sooo baaaad.
