Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have the highest number of Top 75 chart placings, without actually having any placings in the Top 40.
I read that here.
I love Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. They have a great sounding name, they are welsh, and they sing in welsh. And every bit as brilliant and catchy as Super Furry Animals. (that's Super Furry Animals, not The Super Furry Animals. You don't call Oasis, The Oasis.)
GZM split up in 2006, I found out, once I had located my Welsh-English dictionary:
"Mae Gorkys Zygotic Mynci wedi penderfynu chwalu. Hoffa Richard, Megan, Euros a Pete ddiolch i bawb a ddaeth i'r gigs ac a brynodd y recordiau dros y blynyddoedd. Bydd tair albwm cyntaf y band - Patio, Tatay a Bwyd Time ? yn cael eu hail-ryddhau fel a gynlluniwyd erbyn diwedd y flwyddyn. Am wybodaeth am rhai o gyn aelodau'r band gwelwch y cyfeiriadau uchod."
Another under-rated band which thankfully I saw once (Reading 1997). Go out and get their back catalogue, start with the Best of (obviously). I'll get the remastered versions of their first three albums, for those bonus discs.
They wrote out violin teachers, girls in the sea (if my welsh is ok), drinking, and other stuff.
Here is Miss Trudy (the violin teacher):
Glorious. GZM RIP.
(P.S. What with
The Verve, Shed Seven, Kula Shaker reforming - not to mention Spice Girls and Take That - maybe we will see GZM again. Or maybe not, as they didn't hit the Top 40. Damn.)
